If you’re struggling for inspiration on how to present your data in ways that communicate your message, Pam Osborne (Digital Librarian) recommends this fun representation of the range of tools out there . It’s from Visual Literacy, part of “An E-Learning Tutorial on Visualization for Communication… [that is] …the ability to evaluate, apply, or create conceptual visual representations. After this tutorial, students should be able to evaluate advantages and disadvantages of visual representations, to improve their shortcomings, to use them to create and communicate knowledge, or to devise new ways of representing insights.”
If you’ve only got 15 minutes, check out the ‘Periodic Table’ of visual communication for some ideas, if you’ve got longer, the tutorial rocks, and is a great introduction to the science of communicating your message effectively. It’s here. Click on ‘demo tutorials’ when you get there.
